JOB DESCRIPTIONS
The following are abbreviated descriptions of positions at the JCC Ranch Camp for the 2010 Camp Season. The number and description of positions is based upon projected enrollment and is subject to change. Please contact the Ranch Camp office at (303) 316-6384 for position details.
* For all staff positions, current First Aid and CPR certifications are required. Ranch Camp will be offering certification courses during staff week for those who need it.
Administrative Staff
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – Responsibilities include the planning and implementation of a week-long staff training session; assisting the directors in managing Ranch Camp staff, including informing and enforcing Ranch Camp policies and procedures, training staff, and managing disciplinary actions; providing primary contact to parents/guardians of campers during disciplinary actions; assisting Ranch Camp staff in the counseling of campers; and assisting with set-up and clean-up of the campgrounds. Must have supervisory and residential camp experience, as well as experience coordinating programs, schedules, and staff.

OFFICE MANAGER – Responsible for the organization and operation of the Ranch Camp summer office. Will work closely with the Denver Ranch Camp office manager to ensure a smooth workflow over the course of the summer. Must have strong computer skills and supervisory experience. Candidate must also be an outstanding communicator and a service- and detail- oriented individual.

SPECIALISTS DIRECTOR – Responsibilities include the planning and facilitation of specialty activities, the coaching, training, and supervision of 20-25 specialist counselors, participation in the recruitment of the Ranch Camp staff, and activity scheduling for specialists and cabin groups. Prior supervisory experience required.

GIRLS/BOYS VILLAGE HEAD– Responsibilities include the training, coaching, and supervision of over 20 cabin counselors, resolving camper issues, and participation in the recruitment of the Ranch Camp staff. Prior supervisory experience required.

Area Management Staff
TRIP CAMPS COORDINATOR – Responsible for the execution of the trip camps program. Responsibilities include planning the itineraries and menus for all of the out of camp trips and maintaining an updated inventory of all wilderness equipment. Prior wilderness trip leading experience required. Wilderness First Responder certification required.
Minimum Age: 21
CORRAL MANAGER – Responsible for the operation of riding programs, ensuring health and safety of all riders and horses, training and managing corral staff, communicating with veterinarian and horse owners as needed, submitting requests for ordering feed, tack, and other supplies as necessary. Managing all corral supplies and equipment. Must be AAHS Basic Instructor (or equivalent) certified.

POOL DIRECTOR – Directs the operation of camp pool. Responsible for life guarding during swim times, swim testing, swim instruction, and staff supervision. Responsible for the proper proactive maintenance and upkeep of the pool to include all chemicals and equipment. Must be an excellent teacher and have the motivation to support and encourage staff as they work with the campers. Must also supervise the canoeing program and instructors. Must have Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard certifications. Certified Pool Operators License (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification a plus.

ROPES COURSE/CLIMBING DIRECTOR – Develop and implement a low and high ropes course and technical climbing education program for campers. Help campers learn to feel confident in working as a group. Help them experience the value of leading and following. Teach conflict resolution and decision-making skills. Must have prior experience in teaching these skills. Must have completed at least a 40-hour course on ropes course facilitation and safety. Must have at least 6 weeks of experience in a management or supervisory role in a similar type of program.

EQ PROGRAM DIRECTOR – Responsible for overseeing the Equestrian program and all EQ related activities, overseeing and directing EQ staff, monitoring health of camp horses (specifically soundness of EQ horses), assigning horses to EQ campers and monitoring the compatibility of all matches. Must also participate in all barn related activities including horse care, exercise, feeding, and barn maintenance. Must be AAHS Basic Instructor (or equivalent) certified. Minimum age: 21
SIT LEADER – Responsible for the Staff-in-Training program. Duties include training, supervising, and mentoring 6-12 campers training to be future counselors. Also responsible for the supervision of junior staff. Prior supervisory experience a plus.

WIT LEADER –Responsible for the Wrangler-in-Training program. Duties include training, supervising, and mentoring WIT program participants to become future wranglers. Will work closely with corral manager and staff. 2+ years working for the Ranch Camp corral program required. Must be AAHS Basic Instructor (or equivalent) certified. Minimum age: 21
Trip Camps Counseling Staff
TRIP LEADER – Responsible for the supervision of Trip Counselors and campers for out-of camp trips lasting 10 to 21 days, ensuring camper safety, planning and assisting with programs, and incorporating and teaching outdoor education and wilderness skills. Must be skilled at backpacking, map reading, and tent camping. Must be certified in Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder. Water safety certification a plus.

General Counselors
CABIN COUNSELOR (Male/Female)– Responsible for supervision of 6-14 campers, ensuring camper safety, planning and leading camper programs, assisting with specialty activity areas and programming. All cabin counselors live in cabins with campers.

Specialist Positions
Specialists are responsible for creating and implementing lessons to teach campers ages 7-16 in each of the areas listed below. Specialists are expected to be experts in their respective area with the ability to teach the skill, proper use of equipment, and implement an effective safety program. Specialists are housed in camper cabins and assist and participate in all-camp activities. When applying to be a specialist, please reference any certifications in your area(s) of expertise.
ARCHERY – Develop and execute lessons to help teach campers the sport of archery. Must be a certified archery instructor. Must adhere to the strictest safety standards, while still enabling the campers to have fun and develop love for the sport. Must be able to write, follow, and modify lesson plans as needed. Archery Instructor certification required.
Minimum age: 18
ARTS & CRAFTS – Develop and implement creative arts program for campers. Must be able to teach using a variety of mediums, including pottery, paint, tie-dye, jewelry materials, and more. Must be able to write, follow, and modify lesson plans as needed.

CANOEING – Develop and execute lessons to help teach campers the sport of canoeing. Must be a certified lifeguard. Must adhere to the strictest safety standards, while still enabling the campers to have fun and develop a love for canoeing. Must be able to write, follow, and modify lesson plans as needed.

CORRAL STAFF – Responsible for instruction and/or assistance of daily riding classes both mounted and un-mounted. Responsible for the daily care of horses including feeding, exercise, cleaning, health care, and general barn maintenance. Must have intermediate experience with Western and/or English riding and caring for horses.
Minimum age: 18
DRAMA – Develop and implement the drama program. Must be experienced in directing, acting, stagecraft, and play production. Must be able to write, follow, and modify lesson plans as needed.

PROGRAMMING STAFF – Plan and implement evening and special all-camp programs inclusive of dances, campfires, talent shows, Maccabiah games, and staff events.

JUDAICS COORDINATOR – Must develop and implement Judaic lessons for campers 7-16 years of age. Prepare candle lighting, Kaballat Shabbat, Saturday morning, and Havdallah services with the campers. Develop meaningful and fun lesson/activities for Shiur on Saturday morning. Teach the campers and staff members prayers and the meanings of the prayers. Work with Jewish and non-Jewish staff members to develop a feeling of understanding and inclusiveness. Coordinate visits from local Rabbis for Saturday morning services. Must be able to write, follow, and modify lesson plans as needed.

SONGLEADER – Responsible for developing all aspects of music and singing as they relate to various camp programming. Must have ability to sing on key, proficiency in either guitar or piano, and must have strong teaching skills, motivational techniques, and ability to control large groups. Songleaders should be able to organize and lead a camp band, camp choir, camp song sessions, and camp-wide song-fest. Must have vast knowledge of Israeli, Jewish folk, and campfire songs. Will be responsible for leading and accompanying Judaics coordinator in Shabbat services. Music theory and ability to transpose is a plus.

ISRAELI DANCE – Responsible for the planning and implementation of the Israeli dance program. Must be experienced in teaching a variety of Israeli dance moves to be able to engage a wide variety of campers.

LIFEGUARD – Responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director in executing the swimming program, maintaining the swimming pool and surrounding facilities, and lifeguarding during recreational swims. Lifeguard certification required, Water Safety Instructor a plus.
Minimum age: 17
MOUNTAIN BIKING – Responsible for the planning and implementing of the in-camp mountain biking program. Ensures camper safety and maintains mountain biking equipment. Must be skilled at mountain biking, map reading, and bicycle repair and maintenance.

SPORTS – Develop and implement an educational sports and fitness program for campers. Must have a background in sports education or relevant experience. Must have a desire to help campers be successful in finding sport a positive, life-long lifestyle choice.

Support Staff
DOCTOR or NURSE – Oversee the camp health care center. Responsible for the medication disbursement training of trip camp leaders and management team, accountable for administering medication, providing emergency and routine first aid care, maintaining medical records, and communicating with parents. Living quarters are provided in clinic building. Must be a licensed physician or registered nurse.

HEALTH CENTER ASSISTANT – Under the supervision of the Camp Doctor or Camp Nurse, this person is responsible for assisting in the keeping of records, administering medication, running errands, transporting campers to clinics and hospitals, and cleaning the Health Center.
Minimum age: 21
PREP COOKS/ SERVERS – Assist the Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Assistant Manager in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of all camp meals, and adherence to all Kosher requirements. Must have prior food preparation experience. Minimum age: 18
MAINTENANCE CREW (GROUNDS) – Assists the camp caretaker in all maintenance needs on the camp’s grounds. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must have a general knowledge of plumbing and construction, or a willingness to learn.
Minimum age: 17
HOUSEKEEPING CREW (FACILITIES) – Responsible for the operation of the camp laundry, bath house and dining hall cleanliness, supporting camp program operations, and working to maintain camp facilities. Also responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen, washing dishes, and assisting with serving food.
